“Overcomer” [Mth 7-Day 5-Post 47]

I shouldn’t be this surprised. When you have a day like I’ve had and have a friend like Jesus and suddenly you’re being blessed beyond belief left and right—we shouldn’t be so surprised! If scripture shows anything about God, it tells of a good, loving God who forgives His people, welcomes them home and shines forth His favor over their lives. I received a full measure of His favor today. Every few minutes I heard from person after person with nothing but good news to share. It shouldn’t be so hard to believe that I can have days like this every day! All too often we have days that we just pray we survive, pray it goes by fast, pray that we’d hit the sack just as quickly as we left it. But so much has changed for me over the last six months or so that every day seems to be getting better and better.

Every year I choose a theme song, one that I believe God has inspired, to represent the overall theme of my year of life. I’ve been doing this since 1993 when I heard my first contemporary Christian music by Steven Curtis Chapman. So when I listen to these songs, I remember what happened during a specific year, remember to praise God for the great blessings that always came despite the hardships that were happening at the time. Oddly enough, as magnificent as this year has been, I had yet to choose a song that I felt really hit the nail on the head. Today I heard this song by Mandisa for the first time, “Overcomer”:

You’re an overcomer
Stay in the fight ‘til the final round
You’re not going under
‘Cause God is holding you right now
You might be down for a moment
Feeling like it’s hopeless
That’s when He reminds You
That you’re an overcomer
You’re an overcomer

Everybody’s been down
Hit the bottom, hit the ground
Oh, you’re not alone

Just take a breath, don’t forget
Hang on to His promises
He wants You to know

The same Man, the Great I am
The one who overcame death
Is living inside of You
So just hold tight, fix your eyes
On the one who holds your life
There’s nothing He can’t do
He’s telling You

Clearly, the Lord has intended for me to be an Overcomer. One who “sticks and stays” until the final round has ended. And with His help, that is what I intend to do!
